This all day workshop will focus on critical aspects of ADHD as they relate to school and home challenges. The first will address basic information about ADD, ADHD and Executive Functions. This will provide ten key ADHD facts, current research on the brain, role of neurotransmitters and a medication update. The second will focus on common academic challenges such as writing essays, doing complex math and strategies to address them. The third session will discuss executive function deficits that are challenging at both home and school, to include getting started, completing homework and long-term tasks, improving organization, being on-time, and addressing sleep disturbances plus intervention strategies. Finally, brainstorming tips to identify problem areas for students who are struggling in school will be given.

CHRIS A. ZEIGLER DENDY is well known for her work in ADD and ADHD. During the past thirty years Chris has been an author and speaker, classroom teacher, school psychologist, mental health counselor, local and state level mental health administrator, lobbyist and executive director of a statewide mental health advocacy organization, and national mental health consultant on children’s issues. Perhaps, more importantly, she is the mother of two grown sons and a daughter with ADHD. As a result of her personal experiences, she was the cofounder of Gwinnett CHADD (Children and Adults with Attention Deficit/Hyper-activity Disorder) and served as their clinical advisor for seven years. She served on the National CHADD Board of Directors from 2000 to 2005, including terms as secretary and treasurer. She was also inducted into the CHADD Hall of Fame for outstanding contributions to the field.
